The 60 Series wagon, meanwhile, underwent a complete makeover in 1989. It became the 80 Series. This happened after company product planners noticed the 60 Series increasingly was being used as a family vehicle. Owners wanted off-road capabilities for active family weekends, but they also wanted the comfort and practicality of a family sedan during the week.

The Land Cruiser 80 Series met those needs. With its launch in 1990, owners could enjoy a comfortable ride, thanks to coil springs up front, as well as to leather-trim seats, air conditioning, entertainment systems and mobile communications. Safety also became more important with the adoption of airbags and ABS braking systems.

AMT 1995 Ford Ranger 1/24 Scale

The Ranger's changes for 1994 involved the debut of side door guard beams (also standard in the Mazda) and a Splash SuperCab.Safety was increased even more in 1995 for the Ranger (and B-Series) when a driver airbag became standard and four-wheel ABS became optional. However, on trucks with the 4.0-liter V6 engine, ABS was standard. Power was increased for the 2.3-liter and 3.0-liter engines, now rated at 112 horsepower and 145 horsepower, respectively. Ranger SuperCab models could now have a (optional) power driver seat. The sporty STX was now only available as a 4X4.

The next redesign, in 1989, saw a longer-wheelbase option, 122 in (309.9 cm) versus 103 in (261.6 cm) for the regular wheelbase. The V6 Xtracab SR5 earned Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the Year award that year. Production began at the NUMMI plant in Fremont, California in 1991.

The 1992 truck received a new aerodynamic-looking front end, a new dashboard, and the flareside bed returned. The Lightning Performance Truck appeared in 1993, with more than 20 industry "firsts" or pilot applications, including 17" aluminum wheels, gas-charged shocks, and performance handling developed by world-champion driver Jackie Stewart. A CD player option was new for 1994, as was a driver's-side airbag, "CHMSL" third brake light, brake-shift interlock, and CFC free A/C. Following the lead of the Explorer, an Eddie Bauer trim line was added for 1995.

Ford trailed rival General Motors trucks for much of the ninth generation, though sales steadily rose each year. 500,000 F-Series trucks were sold in 1992, but this rose to nearly 800,000 by 1996, and the Ford had overtaken the combined Chevrolet and GMC pickup sales for the first time in a decade.

AMT 1972 Chevrolet Cheyenne Pickup 1/24 Scale

A much more modern truck graced showrooms for 1967 as a complete restyle took place. A clean, broad-shouldered look was the main theme, and both Fleetside and Stepside body styles were again offered.
